Two-Day Workshop

20-21 Nov 2014
9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

The Internet of Things (IoT) encompasses many aspects of life, from connected homes and cities to connected cars and roads to devices that track an individual’s behaviour. With a drastic penetration of smart devices in various domains like healthcare, utilities, mobile, home appliances etc, the amount of data available to utilities is set to experience explosive growth. Success of smartphones has created the biggest sensor deployment in the world, with millions of users constantly taking pictures and reporting their movements and activities through Facebook and Twitter. The availability of Big Data has tickled a gradual shift in the mind-set of people towards previously inconceivable data driven applications.

The traditional methodologies to manage the data need to evolve to enforce order and gain value from this chaotic data flow. Big data is all about organizing the data i.e. storing, organizing, and querying. Big Data analytics simply supplements the traditional technologies with new technologies and access methods better tailored to meet the requirements of different V's of data such as Volume, Velocity, Variety, Veracity, Visualization, Value etc.

The aim of the proposed workshop is to give an overview of different tools and technologies and harness the benefits of big data analytics for efficient planning and management of data exploding from smart devices and IoT. By employing big data analytics, companies can achieve and maintain the levels of satisfaction desired by customers and by regulators.

The workshop includes tutorial on Big Data from CDAC and Smart Devices (IoT) from Robert Bosch Centre of Cyber Physical Systems (RBCCPS) along with the confirmed speakers given below:

  • Santhosh Kumar Madathil, Wipro, Bengaluru
  • Saumyadipta Pyne, AIMSCS, Hyderabad
  • Yogesh Simmhan, IISc, Bengaluru
  • Amit Merchant, IBM, Bengaluru
  • Prasant Misra, RBCCPS, Bengaluru
